Overland Curves: 1,864 Corners to Find Myself

The road doesn't ask you who you are. It doesn't care about your past, your anxieties, or the metrics you measure your life by at home. It just lays itself out before you, waiting to be driven.

The Weight of the First Turn

When Raghu first signed up, his experience driving outside major metropolitan areas was limited. The idea of handling steep mountain climbs and sharp hairpin turns on foreign highways felt intimidating. But the curve is not something to be conquered—it is something to be followed.

As the journey progressed through the Mae Hong Son loop, the count of corners grew. By the time we finished, we had completed exactly 1,864 curves through the misty hills of northern Thailand. But something else changed along those corners: the hesitation disappeared. The focus shifted from avoiding the road to participating in it.

“The road doesn't ask you who you are, it just teaches you.”
